Some people have been asking me for more details on what this “Convince” subcommitee is all about that I’m in. Here’s some details straight from the minutes of our meeting on June 21st:
Role of the YP Commission and its committees:
The committee discussed the role of the commission and the committee structure. John explained that the “Convince” committee is supposed to find ways to encourage people to come to the city; the “Connect” committee is charged with connecting YPs already in the area; and the “City” committee is charged with working on ways to improve the city.The committee said the most successful cities don’t advertise because the residents create a buzz. John explained that the “Convince” committee does not need to work only on “convince” items. He also pointed out that we need to make sure we have a budget for our work plans, or that we talk to people who do. Without a budget, our role is to convince the right people to agree with our opinion.
The committee questioned whether the city will be setting the agenda for this group, or whether we will have the opportunity to set our own agenda, and several of the committee members said they have no interest in joining the commission if it has no voice.
