Earlier this summer, Anne & I stopped by the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls during a weekend getaway to the Hocking Hills area. We stayed elsewhere that weekend, but had a great dinner & breakfast (review here) at their restaurant.
This past weekend, we were invited back along with a group of other Columbus food bloggers to stay the night in one of their cabins, take part in some of their spa services, and enjoy another round of dinner and breakfast at the Inn.
We arrived last Friday around 3pm after a short 80 minute drive from Columbus. This was actually our first time spending the night away from the kiddo, which was nice although we missed him a lot. We headed straight over to the cabin where the spa services are held, and relaxed with a “couples massage”. Very fun.
Before dinner, we were given a tour of the grounds and learned about the history of the location. They’ve got some great community spaces in addition to their private cabins and cottages.
When we sat down to dinner, I started off with an Island Breeze cocktail that was made with their house-infused pineapple vodka. Quite tasty. Every meal at The Inn is started off with a basket of assorted crackers and their delicious Wisconsin Cheese Ball, as well as warm bread, soup (the day’s soup was spaghetti squash), and salad.
Anne stuck with the Salmon that she ordered last time, and I decided to try out the “Lake Erie Perch en Papillote” dish. Terry, the Innkeeper who sat at our table described the dish as being “campfire style”. I was intrigued. The photo of the dish can be found up top, easily identifiable as the one wrapped in parchment paper. It was absolutely delicious. Easily my favorite fish dish I’ve had all year from any restaurant. Definitely worth trying out if you’re in the area.
For dessert, we almost stuck with the same things as last time as well. Anne got the mixed berry cobbler and I went with the Creme Brule. Last time it was lavender flavored, which I wasn’t too keen on, but this time it was blueberry, which was excellent. The Ohio Honey is a nice touch.
Executive Chef Anthony Schulz was on hand to answer questions throughout the whole course of the meal, which really made the experience stellar. They feature a lot of locally grown products in their menu, so this is a great place to dine if you fancy yourself as a bit of a locavore.
After dinner, many of the bloggers gathered around a campfire for some wine, but we retreated back to our cottage. The space was very cozy and intimate without feeling too small. The room featured a very large bed, windows that offered views into the hills (we spotted a deer), and a large jacuzzi tub for two.
Breakfast the next morning consisted of an egg casserole that contained bell peppers and other veggies as well as a raspberry muffin and a side of bacon. Perfect portion to start off the day.
I don’t know if my photos and words can do this place justice. It’s a spot that you just need to experience for yourself. A great weekend getaway both for a couple or for a larger group of friends. We love that this place is so close to home, but feels like a completely different world. We’ll definitely be back!
