The Seattle Streetcar : A Video Worth Watching

seattleIt’s no secret that I’ve been a long-standing fan of the Columbus Streetcar plan. It was tabled last summer for research and since has been rolled into a larger light-rail plan. I’m a big fan of multi-modal transit systems that are built well and compliment each other very well, and I still think central-city streetcar lines running different routes could be a beneficial addition to our transit system down the road.

Anyway, yesterday a new video was posted on Streetsblog.org that showcases the Seattle Streetcar line and does a great visual job of nailing a few key points in four minutes:

  • The Streetcar works in tandem with other transit systems including light rail, automobile parking, buses, and bikes.
  • The Streetcar is easy to use, quiet to ride, and fits well into the urban fabric of a city.
  • The Streetcar spurs urban economic development. Multiple projects along the line are highlighted.

So if you’ve got four minutes to kill, give this video a spin. Great visual example of what we could expect a Columbus Streetcar to look like, how it would function, and how it could help our city to grow.
