As I’m sure you’re already well aware, the remnants of Hurricane Ike took it’s toll on Columbus this past Sunday evening. Winds gusting up to 78mph wrecked a lot of trees, downed power lines, killed several people, and left over a million people across the state without power. Half of Columbus was powerless on Monday morning, and even today not everyone has been restored.
We were fortunate enough to only have our power out for about 6 hours on Sunday night. I think we may be the only people on our block with City Electric and not AEP. Our internet access was down though, which was a major problem for me as I run a mostly online business from my home. Fortunately, the coffee shop on the corner was up and running, and I managed to get a few things done off and on over there this week. It was still a major hastle for us, but not nearly as bad as a lot of other people around the city had it.
You can relive some other people’s stories on Columbus Underground here, here, here, and here.
