The Columbus Cultural Planning Process

Bryan Knicely, President of GCAC has a very interesting topic posted on Columbus Underground about the development of a Cultural Plan for Columbus.

I haven’t done a whole lot of research on what other cities are doing, but I’ve read a lot of general information from various news articles touting the “creative class” as a current hot commodity for cities looking to continue to grow in their urban cores. Over the past year it’s felt like Columbus has had it’s share of art/creative projects and ideas springing into life or development, but without a Cultural Plan I can see where our efforts may be falling short of something more organized and working as a master overlay for the city.

I wonder what sort of next steps need to be taken to get something like this up and running. I assume it’s something that the City would organize along with GCAC, and other organization leaders, but is there anything that we as individuals or artists could do to help with development of a plan?
