On Sunday, Anne & I were invited by our friends Roland and Bear to a brunch at Sage, the new restaurant north of the campus area that took over the old Kitchen Lounge spot. We were pretty excited to go, as we’ve heard great things from pretty much everyone on Columbus Underground.
Anne ordered the Crème brûlée French Toast, and I ordered the Chorizo, Black Bean, and Sweet Potato Hash. I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but it reminded me of a grown up version of a dish I used to love at Denny’s (about 10 years ago) that combined Potatoes, Eggs, Peppers, Cheese, Salsa, and Chicken into a big ol’ breakfast mess. Of course the Sage version had a much better flavor and better ingredients. I’d trade that spicy chorizo for the Denny’s cubed chicken any time. You can see the full Sage brunch menu here. There are no prices listed online but our tab was $19 pre-tip. Great value compared to other brunch options around Columbus.
The service was great too. The hostess grabbed us a High Chair for Desi, and quickly brought him out a little plate of fruit to eat and play with. Very awesome since we haven’t gotten to the point of ordering food for him yet, and it can usually take awhile to get our meals that we can give him bites of. For him to have that simple entertainment in front of him early on was very nice, since he was in a little bit of a sleepy/cranky mood earlier that day.
And I don’t know if this is due to some sort of strange anomaly or not, but we ended up knowing half the people dining in that morning. Some friends were there when we arrived, and others kept coming in. Always a good time to see so many familiar faces and chat a bit. Gave the place a great “neighborhood” feel.
Anne & I will definitely be back to Sage VERY soon. Can’t wait to try out dinner menu. This may become our new standard Sunday brunch destination.
