Photos from the Lincoln Theatre Open House

Took a bunch of photos yesterday of the Lincoln Theater Open House Tour. Big crowds and a big turnout. Great weather for it, and lots of people hanging around outside to eat and drink and hang out. Good stuff!

I stood there 10 years ago, when then City Council President Mike Coleman began his dispute to take it over from the previous owner after 2 generations of neglect. It was worse than shuttered, it was a devastated mess and the neighborhood environs were nearly as bad. Boarded buildings were the rule and abandoned housing surrounded it. These great pics, full of families and energy, are the reality of smart, well thought out urban redevelopment done by public private partnerships. Naysayers be damned, there are good uses of public dollars in leveraging private enterprise and I’m proud to have been a part of this in some small way. Thank you Walker for not only reporting on it, but also for voting with your personal resources to be part of a neighborhood that is trying to work its way back to greatness.
