New Local Art: Ben DeVoe

I’m always saying that I wish I had more art in my house. We’ve got things on our walls, but most of the art has been created by Anne and myself. She’s a great colored pencil artist (but doesn’t create new art as often as I think she should). We’ve also got a painting of hers hung up, a push-pin map she created as a gift for me, as well as some black and white photography prints I did a few years ago. Oh, and we’ve also got a print of the Front St. photo from Metroscap.

Tonight I was able to add to our collection by purchasing an original piece from local artist Ben Devoe (who’s unfortunately leaving us for NYC in a few days). I’ve already got it hung up, but we may move it since the existing nail is a little high on our large brick wall over the stairs (pardon the mess):

I really appreciated getting a personal story out of the piece and it makes me feel much more connected to it than some of the other prints hanging in our house that have simply been store bought over the years. So yes… if you’re looking for some interesting art, hit up Ben and buy something for yourself. He’s a great guy and a great artist, and I’m already looking forward to visiting him in NYC soon.

I stopped by and bought two of Ben’s paintings tonight. Here’s the thing about Ben. He’d give you a painting if you wanted it, but didn’t have the money. He’s a great guy, a great painter, and I will miss him sorely when he moves to NYC next Tuesday.

You want the center of that painting at 60″ – so, yeah… it is a little high.

    Nice!

And don’t shortchange yourself…many would consider that Asteroids console a work of art as well.

    Eye of the beholder…y’know?
