I’m brainstorming some ideas for an upcoming educational/informational event and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for local groups/speakers/activists who are heading green/sustainable/recycling initiatives in their communities.
I’m looking for ideas and programs off the beaten path that deserve a bit more awareness in Central Ohio as a whole. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

You might want to check out FreeGeek Columbus. They’re focused on reusing and recycling old computers.

Oh yes, forgot about FreeGeek. Thanks for the reminder.
Susan Ashbrook and SWACO are doing a big study on this looking for recycling ideas from other cities… should be a report in a few weeks. Just FYI. All ideas welcome. There’s also some new experiments we are doing this summer with festivals and major events. Lots of new ideas being tried on a bigger level than in past.
The City of Gahanna has launched a new recycling and trash collection system at City Hall with plans to extend it to other sectors in the City. The Service Dept is in charge of the program.
Here are few examples:
Godman Guild Association and has a community garden and the DragonFly Restaurant uses food from their own garden.
Tip Top, North Star and other local businesses use local foods for their menus.
Obviously the Lazarus building is huge evidence of green architecture but I was interested to hear about Greenview Estates off of Woodlawn Ave which is part of “Get Green Columbus” focusing on residential eco-friendly housing.
Local business owners are also talking more about recycling and eco-friendly business practices with Liz Lessner leading the way.
Ha ha, I love it… you ask for things “outside of recycling” and then people post about recycling. I say talk to any of the local Sustainability groups. Sustainable Worthington was the first I believe, but there are several others now. Email me if you want emails/websites.
