Did you know Ohio Wine is all the buzz right now?

Or so I’m told. I really don’t know a lot about wine, and I tend to only drink the sweeter and fruiter varieties. You might think that would get you laughed at while attending the North Market’s Ohio Wine Festival, but it’s actually a very open and welcome environment for wine enthusiasts of all levels of experience and knowledge.

The 7th Annual Wine Festival was held on July 11, 12, and 13th outside the North Market. Originally it was held inside the market, but quickly outgrew the space. They moved it outside and started shutting down Spruce Street to fill with booths housing wine from all over the state of Ohio. Anne & I were “celebrity pourers” at last year’s festival, and this year we opted to work an earlier shift at one of the ticket counters. If you’ve ever thought about putting in some volunteer work, the North Market is a great place to do it.

After our shift was over, we strolled around to sample a few of the wines that sounded good to us. Some were good, and two of them we loved so much that we bought bottles to take home with us, pictured below.

Wine

The raspberry wine from Troutman Vineyards we actually just finally opened and drank this weekend. Very sweet, and very thick. Or should I say “full bodied”? Isn’t that what they say? Anyway, a great dessert wine if you’re not usually into sweeter varieties.

The other bottle is a peach wine from Raven’s Glenn that we’ve not opened yet, but was absolutely delicious when we tasted it. Perfect fresh peach taste. I imagine it would have a perfect crisp bite to it when well chilled. Can’t wait until we get around to the special occasion where we deem this one worthy of opening.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a good way to try a bunch of different local wines at once, then keep an eye out for next year’s festival. I’m sure you’ll see us there again.
