Yeah, I’ve thought about buying a scooter. I know the Ohio weather would only allow me to ride it for a portion of the year. And I don’t think they really make baby seats for them. But really, the main reason I haven’t gotten one yet is that I don’t really have much of a place to keep one where I live.
Anyway, there’s been a pretty big discussion on Columbus Underground lately about how NRI is squashing scooter parking around the Arena District. With the rise of scooter popularity downtown, are rules about scooter parking and operation going to start getting more strictly enforced?
Will this be a deterrent for urban dwellers to make that scooter purchase, or will the city of Columbus step up to provide better parking options for two-wheelers downtown? I’m hoping for the latter. Would it be too much to ask to get maybe one parking spot per block converted into two-wheeler parking slots? I’m sure you could fit at least four or five scooters in the space that one car would fit. And if scooter drivers are given the option to park legally it would not only keep them from parking on sidewalks, but also contribute more money into parking meters.
