The Walker Evans Effect Rotating Header Image

Columbus is “On Course” according to… me

There was an interesting article in the Dipatch yesterday about the state of affairs in Columbus and ultimately how it pertains to the upcoming mayorial election. Below are some of my quotes that were featured in the article.

“I’ve seen a lot of improvement since I first arrived,” said Walker Evans, a 27-year-old who like thousands of others came to Columbus to attend Ohio State University and ended up staying.

Evans feels safe in his German Village home. He feels good about job opportunities here. He’s impressed with places like the Short North and South Campus Gateway. He’s impatient for a turnaround at Columbus City Center.

He and his wife are expecting their first child, though, and he wonders whether they’ll eventually move away to avoid Columbus Public Schools.

“We don’t want to move out to the suburbs,” said Evans, who runs the blog ColumbusUnderground.com, where a mostly younger crowd discusses life in the city.

“We have friends who are having children,” he said. “That’s where they’re headed.”
