Art on the Path February 29 – March 26, 2008
Opening Reception: Friday, February 29, 6-8pm
Gallery Hop: Saturday, March 1, 6-10pmColumbus, Ohio – Mahan Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition, Art on the Path, featuring the members of Columbus’s Pathway Clubhouse art therapy sessions. The artworks exhibited are interesting, inviting, and honest and speak volumes about the importance of expression. Part of all proceeds from Art on the Path will be donated to Columbus Area Inc.’s, Pathway Clubhouse.
“Art on the Path features artists from Columbus Area Inc.’s, Pathway Clubhouse. The pieces have been created during art therapy group sessions that meet on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1:00-2:00.
The significance of an art therapy group session is inherent in the group atmosphere. Our group is always open to new members and several have attended twice a week for nearly five years. Members share the creative process and develop a productive and positive intimacy within the group.
The creative process is part of being human. And yet opportunities for creativity are often unavailable to those with a diagnosis of mental illness. The art therapy group at Pathway is both a luxury and a necessity: it provides the materials and environment to sublimate obstacles, organize thoughts and to create a life affirming product. “ -Robert Tavani, ATR
A note from the Director:
On behalf of Columbus Area, Inc.’s Board of Trustee, staff and its’ Pathway Clubhouse members, I am thrilled that the Mahan Gallery is offering our members a platform to exhibit their poignant expressions through art. We whole heartily support the therapeutic nature of creativity. Time and time again the results of art-making has provided insight, sanctuary, pride and, for some, healing. After viewing the displayed work, I am confident that you will appreciate their artistry.
