Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman hosted the first Barack Obama campaign Urban Town Hall in Ohio on Monday at the King Arts Complex in Columbus. The town hall was held to highlight Obama’s plan for revitalizing America’s cities. At the town hall, participants were given a booklet titled, “Barack Obama’s Plan to Promote Urban Prosperity.”

The plan outlines a program for urban development that includes economic prosperity, housing, poverty, strengthening the livability of cities, healthcare, education, crime and law enforcement, strengthening homeland security and helping families.

Coleman was joined by panelists Earl Graves, founder and publisher of Black Enterprise Magazine; Walker Evans, founder and operator of ColumbusUnderground.com; Cassandra Butts, senior Obama domestic policy adviser; Anthony Houston, a member of the Ohio Board of Regents; and Pirette Talley; Secretary-Treasurer of the Ohio AFL-CIO.

Before the town hall, the participants took a tour of the historic Lincoln Theater, which is currently being renovated through a public-private initiative and also visited other sites in the Lincoln/King District highlighting areas that are still in need of assistance.
